History

Gerhard Fezer emigrated from Germany to Brazil with his family in 1921 to start their own sawmill. In 1938 he joined as partner of a metal shop which built saw mill equipment and boilers. In 1948 he moved to Caçador in the state of Santa Catarina, at that time the heart of the woodworking industry in Southern Brazil due to the large volumes of Parana Pine, where together with partners Samoel Haudsch, Miguel Haudsch and Armin Reinher they founded the company FEZER.

The first machines built were for the paper and sawn timber industry, as well as repair of other machinery. In 1964 Fezer became Fezer Inc. specializing in veneer equipment. In 1974 a new factory was built on 62 acres of land under the present full name of Fezer SA Industrias Mecanicas. After the incorporation and the construction of the new factory arrangements were made to transfer "know how" and engineering to Fezer under license from Europe. This new technology brought more success to Fezer. Fezer responded by bringing modern equipment into its factory, which in turn raised their quality.

Today Fezer is one of the most modern factories with CNC machine centers and CAD/CAM design/build capabilities. Fezer developed its own up to the minute computer program to control progress from start to finish of each machine.

Outside suppliers of parts and assemblies must meet rigorous quality standards. Most of the suppliers are branches of European and American firms. The engineering department produces drawings under DIN standards.   Electrical standards used are VDE (German) or NEC (American). Languages spoken are Portuguese, Spanish, German, English and Italian.

Fezer also has its own foundry, for gray and nodular iron.
